I took the road back to Hans Fahden Vineyards one last time this year to document the wedding of Alex and Scott. It was a, simply put, a day of celebration and beauty. The foliage was turning, and the late afternoon October sun cast a warm glow over the guests. Scott was ebullient, and Alex was just stunning. The couple chose the incomparable Reverend Blane Ellsworth to preside over their ceremony, which left everyone delighted and misty-eyed. With each click of the shutter, each captured frame, I counted my blessings. As this busy wedding season finally starts to wind down, I dare not take for granted the opportunity that Alex and Scott presented me: to be the invited documentarian of happiness, beauty, energy, love. Alex, Scott, thank you again for choosing me to spend this special day among your family and friends. You could not have picked a more perfect place than Hans Fahden, and you certainly found perfection in one another! By the way, before anyone asks, the phenomenal florist and designer whose creations adorned Alex and Scott’s Hans Fahden wedding is Amy Hunt.

Happy Thanksgiving! As we all prepare to indulge, and to reflect on what we are thankful for, I am excited to share the wedding of my dear friends Igor and Yuliya. To use the classic opening line of most wedding toasts, I have known Igor for over 20 years. We’ve traveled through this American life together, sometimes in close quarters, sometimes at arm’s length. Igor, I’m thankful for your friendship, and I could think of no greater honor than to be able to document your day of marriage to Yuliya. Tonight, as we sit among friends and family, I think it’s only fitting to recall and celebrate that sunny October afternoon at Congregation Beth Am. Through the efforts of many talented friends and devoted family, as well as the organizational ju-jitsu of Miracle Events, your wedding was…well…magical. I can only hope that health, wealth, and good fortune are in the cards for you both! Mazel Tov!!

Breathe in. Ahhhhhhhh, October. The fog disappears, the sun confidently emerges, the coast comes alive, and Northern California wedding season really gets into gear. What a joy it was to kick off the month by documenting the sun-drenched wedding of Ani and Val in Carmel. They picked Carmel Mission Inn to host their celebration, but for the ceremony, Ani and Val picked a gorgeous, meaningful spot called Stewart’s Cove. A steep sand staircase led down to the expansive beach and blue water below. Chairs were arranged for an intimate ceremony, and rose petals marked the circle inside which the bride and groom, with a close friend officiating the nuptials, joined their hands – and their lives. Ani, Val, you guys really have a wonderful yin and yang thing going on. Not only with one another, but also within your individual selves. You’re both confident, elegant, charming, stylish, and yet you’re not afraid to frolic and get absolutely silly. I loved the relaxed mood of your day, and its warm energy and cool ocean hues will continue swirling in my memory for years to come. You’re surrounded by an incredible community of family and friends, and I hope that the love and support they brought on your wedding day will be the most important, lasting gift you could have received.

When I met Marina and Pablo at San Francisco City Hall on this particular autumn afternoon, we were working with the following set of ingredients: No sleep, no food, no parking. Add a scoop of ‘running behind schedule’ and a dash of ‘forgot the rings in the car’, and we had the perfect City Hall wedding recipe. That the day turned out fabulously is a testament to the love that flows between them, and the incredible positive energy that flows from them. Marina, Pablo, you are both simply fabulous. I still cannot believe that we were able to accomplish so much in such a short afternoon, and I sincerely apologize for making you climb on windowsills, wade through traffic, dodge cable cars and levitate using conventional balloons. Your sense of style and your ability to run down long staircases in high heels are enviable qualities. You might consider teaching a workshop! Anyway, I’ll stop rambling now and let you and the world enjoy the results of my love for photography and your love for one another.
